Abstract: The paper analyses case distributions of the names of Eastern European countries in mainstream and alternative media. Case distributions are lists of grammatical cases (the nominative, ge-nitive, dative, accusative, locative, and instrumental – the vocative was excluded due to low frequencies) in which a particular name is used and their frequencies in the given set of texts. The articles are taken from the respective parts of the ONLINE2_ARCHIVE corpus, with the period research being 1 January 2022 to 31 October 2023. It has been found out that all the country names occur statistically significantly more in the alternative media corpus than in the mainstream media one. As concerns the case distributions, 64% of the analysed cases behave differently in the two corpora. The most pronounced finding is an overall backgrounding of the locative in favour of other cases with less neutral meanings – Lithuania and Latvia occur more in the genitive, Russia’s frequencies rise in the dative, instrumental, and accusative, and Ukraine appears more in the nominative.
